Patents

Patents are just like monopoly contracts drafted between the inventors and the government in return for disclosure of their contents to the public for a specific period of time. Under this contract nobody has the right to use, sell, benefit from this patent without a prior consent from its owners.
Most of the patent laws set three criteria as prerequisites for any invention before being granted:

  • New: means that it was not previously in existence.
  • Capable of industrial application: defined as applicable and providing benefits or uses.
  • New inventive step: means that the invention should not be obvious to those who are skilled in the areas related to the invention.

Almost any useful device or process can be an invention.

Patents are protected for 16-20 years according to the Patent law for each country.
